ARMY ROTC IS ABOUT LEADERSHIP

The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a series of elective courses offered at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville (UAF) for students attending UAF, Northeastern State University (NSU-Tahlequah, OK), John Brown University (JBU-Siloam Springs, AR), University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (UAFS) and Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC-Rogers, AR). The program combines college electives in military science with practical leadership training to prepare men and women to become Army officers. ROTC also opens the doors to a variety of exciting careers, extracurricular activities, and advanced military training. Upon successful completion of the Army ROTC program and graduation from college, cadets receive a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, the Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard.

ROTC at UAF will quickly give you the confidence and self-discipline necessary to progress in your studies, skills no other college course teaches. You will learn how to motivate and lead others, manage complex tasks, and communicate ideas effectively; the same traits prospective employers will be looking for when you graduate. Qualify, and you could get a 2, 3, or 4 year scholarship worth up $20,000 annually.

ROTC is NOT a major. It is designed to compliment your regular college courses, not interfere with them. However, students at John Brown University or Northeastern State University can earn a minor in Military Science by completing the four year program. ROTC courses fit right into your regular college schedule. You can enroll in ROTC for the first two years (the "Basic Course") with no military obligation. Once you accept a scholarship or begin your junior year of ROTC (the "Advanced Course"), you make a commitment to serve as an officer in the Active Army, the Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard upon graduation. The initial active duty obligation is either three or four years.

WHAT ELSE DOES THE PROGRAM OFFER?

The Military Science Program sponsors several social and professional activities as well as community service events. The social highlight of the school year is a formal Military Ball in the spring. Razorback Army ROTC also sponsors cadet visits to Army installations. Cadets gain valuable and practical leadership experience by organizing and executing these extracurricular activities.

Cadets participate in a Leadership Development and Assessment Course for six weeks the summer after their junior year. Many seek additional training such as Airborne or Air Assault schools and officer "apprenticeships" at military installations throughout the United States, Korea, and Germany. You'll also be invited to get into top shape through an organized physical fitness program. Razorback Brigade cadets are also leaders on campus. Some hold office in student government and fraternities. Others are active in professional organizations and campus athletics. Come see for yourself.
